Signs of Water Damage

10/13/2023 (Permalink)

Water Damage can happen very unexpectedly and from a variety of sources. Severe thunderstorms and burst pipes can be two causes of water leaking through your floors or ceilings. Leaks from appliances that start out slowly can be a huge cause of a quick water buildup, and it’s always best to stop the water as soon as you find out about it. If you think you may have water damage in your home, be sure to look for the following signs before calling us at SERVPRO®. Our team prides ourselves on being faster to any sized disaster.

On walls, look for:

  • Peeling, bubbling, or flaking paint
  • Small hairline cracks or a spiderwebbed pattern of cracks on the wall
  • Water rings that usually appear to be a light brown color
  • Mold growth in areas where walls and ceilings meet. Mold is typically found in humid areas like basements
  • Water stains that appear as dark yellow
  • Musty smells
  • Drywall that appears soft, especially if the wall is sinking in when you gently press it
  • Any discoloration that looks like running streaks

On floors, look for:

  • Buckling, where the floor appears to be separating
  • Warping, where the floor is cracked or bubbling
  • Discoloration, indicating possible mold or mildew
  • Cupping, where edges are curling upwards
  • Crowning, where a loss of moisturize leaves the middle of the floor appearing raised up and the edges lowered
  • Musty odors and smells

After calling SERVPRO®, we will perform a detailed inspection of water damage to your home and start the process of getting your home back to new like it never happened. Our professionals will be able to transform your home and even do reconstruction services if needed! We are here to help and make it “Like it never even happened.”
